Dave Snowden at XPDay - WOW!
Posted by andy in : Agile on October 13, 2004We’re so lucky to get Dave Snowden to talk at this year’s XPDay. He is both a keynote and running a master class. Dave pioneered the use of story techniques as a means of knowledge disclosure and a key aspect of creating a knowledge strategy.
He is relatively unknown in the Agile World - hopfully we can help put that right.
Anyway, just look at what he’s talking about in his master class (oooohhh, can’t wait).
People don’t make rational decisions - its not he way the brain evolved. Instead they make first fit (not best fit) pattern matches with prior experience (either their own, or others conveyed through stories) and then retrospectively justify them as “rational”. Because of this you either have to convey a new message in such a way that it “resonates” with an existing prior pattern of success, or disrupt those patterns so that people see things from a different perspective, with a disposition to act.
This workshop will draw on a decade of theoretical research and practical experiments to work with the reality of human decision making:
